One of the most important things that anyone looks for when buying a mattress for camping is the level of comfort that it provides. This is something that we consider even when buying a mattress for our beds at home. Therefore, it is extremely important that you feel the comfort you desire since you will be using it on the ground. As for the Sierra Designs 2 Person Queen Camping Air Bed, there is plenty of that to offer. The mattress has a bubble patterns design which provides better distribution of weight across the mattress.
The mattress also comes with an included pillow which makes it even more convenient since you do not have to pack anything separately. Of course, it is quite basic, and you can upgrade to proper pillows if you feel the need. One thing that you should keep in mind is that to get the most out of this bed, it is best if you use a foam sheet underneath it for better comfort. Since the mattress adjusts to surfaces easily, not having one could have you sleeping on uneven ground which could be quite uncomfortable.
Warmth and insulation
Like most other air mattresses, the Sierra Designs 2 Person Queen Camping Air Bed is also not capable of creating any warmth or provide insulation of any kind. The mattress has the same surface temperature as your surroundings, and you will not get any warmth when sleeping on it without other arrangement. The company also does not provide any R value for it and that is expected from a mattress of this caliber. The TPU used in this mattress also generally comes without any insulation or warmth rating.
The best way to deal with this would be to either put a warm and thick cloth on top of it or simply use sleeping bags for bringing the warmth you require. In fact, a lot of people who buy it already know that to be the intended method of use for this mattress.
Durability and quality
The mattress is built using TPU which the company claims is environment friendly. The mattress has zero phthalate or PVC used in it which makes it environment friendly as well. the TPU itself is also quite strong and comes with a crack resistance rating of 10F – 105F. This means you can treat this mattress in a somewhat rough manner and still be able to get away with it. The company claims that the mattress would resist getting punctured as well but that is something you simply cannot rely on. With so many sharp objects present in the wilds, be sure to take good care to avoid getting punctures.
Weight and Packed size
The mattress is extremely lightweight, especially considering its high build quality and size. The overall size is 16.06 in. x 10.43 in. x 10.2 in. when packed and that makes for an extremely manageable package. With the total weight being just over 6 lbs., you can even allow your kids to carry it when going camping with your family. The small size also means that you can take it anywhere even if you are on a motorbike and fit it on the back without it hanging out too much. As for the weight that it can carry, there is no official weight rating, but the company claims that two people can sleep on it easily. For the sake of security, assume that those two people are not overweight.
The mattress only comes in a single size which is queen bed. However, users have shown the concern that the size rating is not accurate and that the actual size is a little smaller than a queen-sized bed. As for the thickness, the mattress comes with a standard height of 7 inches with a further inflation of 3.2 inches for the built-in pillows. While the size issue may be present, a lot of users find it to be much more manageable inside a tent. The mattress has a width of almost 56 inches which provides 28 inches of space for each person. You can easily figure out whether that would be enough for you or not.

The inflation process on this mattress is one of the easiest out there. The mattress comes with an electric pump which has a space for batteries as well, making it quite portable. The mattress also uses a Boston valve, so you do not have to worry about losing air when inflating it. Being PVC free also means that you do not have to deal with that typical plastic smell that you get with a lot of other mattresses.
